THE SOLENT & THE ISLE OF WIGHT, SOUTHAMPTON & PORTSMOUTH : 196
ORDNANCE SURVEY
Map sheet number 196 in the OS Landranger map series is the ideal map to use when planning a day trip or holiday in the Solent and Isle of Wight area. The area is famous for sailing, but there are also opportunities for a huge variety of walks and rides, including the epic 'round the island' route that can be 100km or more.
The Isle of Wight is also a popular tourist destination, with The Needles, Osborne House, Carisbrooke Castle and the IoW Steam Railway all proving popular. You can get to the Isle of Wight using a car ferry from Portsmouth, Southampton or Lymington. You can also catch the unique hovercraft as a foot passenger from Southsea.
This map also includes the southern part of the New Forest National Park, including Exbury and Lymington. There's lots to explore both on the coast and inland, with numerous walking and cycling routes, as well as historic sites to visit. The regional cities of Southampton and Portsmouth both have history to explore such as the Historic Dockyard; Southampton is also the home of Ordnance Survey!
